NorskKryss ("we", "our", or "the app") is a Norwegian language learning app that teaches vocabulary through crossword puzzles. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

NorskKryss stores the following information locally on your device:

Learning Progress: Words learned, puzzle completion status, XP earned, and streaks
App Preferences: Sound settings, haptic feedback preferences, dark theme setting, and notification preferences
Usage Data: Last played date for streak tracking

Data Collected with Google Sign-In (Optional)

If you choose to sign in with Google, we collect and store:

Google Account Info: Your email address and display name
Google ID: A unique identifier to link your account
Progress Data: Your learning progress is synced to our servers for backup and cross-device access

This data is stored securely on our servers and is used solely to provide the sync functionality. You can use the app without signing in - Google Sign-In is completely optional.

Third-Party Services

Google Sign-In

We use Google Sign-In to authenticate users who choose to sync their progress. When you sign in, Google shares your basic profile information with us. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

We use Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect and use data to provide personalized ads, including:

Firebase Crashlytics

Cloud Data (if signed in): Stored on our servers until you delete your account or request deletion.

Clearing the app's data in your device settings
Uninstalling the app

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:

Authentication tokens are stored securely using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences
Server communications use HTTPS encryption
Passwords are never stored - we use Google Sign-In for authentication

Children's Privacy

NorskKryss is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Google Sign-In requires users to have a Google account, which has its own age restrictions.

Request deletion of your cloud data
Opt out of personalized advertising

Account & Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your NorskKryss account and associated data at any time.

What gets deleted:

Your user profile and Google ID association
All synced progress data (XP, streaks, completed puzzles)
Word learning history stored on our servers

What is NOT deleted:

Local data on your device (clear this manually via app settings or device settings)
Your Google account (managed by Google, not us)

How to request deletion:

Send an email to subedipariwesh@gmail.com with:

Subject: "NorskKryss Account Deletion Request"
The email address associated with your Google Sign-In

We will process your request within 7 days and confirm deletion via email.
